1. Properties
Glyoxylic acid is an important organic chemical raw material. It is white columnar crystal. Molecular formula is C2H2O3, relative molecular weight is 74.04. Its aqueous solution is colorless transparent liquid. Melting point of hemihydrate is 70-75℃, of anhydride is 98℃. It is easily soluble in water, slightly soluble in ethyl alcohol, diethyl ether, and benzene, insoluble in ester and aromatic solvents.
2. Uses
Glyoxylic acid is an important fine chemical material. It can be used in synthesizing vanillin, ethyl vanillin, piperonal, and p-Anisaldehyde in spice industry; in synthesizing oral penicillin, allantoin, 4-Hydroxy Phenylglycine, 4-Hydroxyphenylacetic acid, DL-Mandelic acid, acetophenone, and 4-Hydroxybenzeneacetamide in pharmaceutical industry; in producing glyphosate, quintiofos, and quizalofop-ethyl in pesticide industry, and etc. In a word, glyoxylic acid has been widely used in spice, medicine, pesticide, papermaking, coating, paint, leather, food additive, and other fields.
